How to avoid design errors in pressure vessels

Jun 29, 2026

I. Preliminary Design Phase

Accurate Classification and Definition: Strictly classify pressure vessels and their jurisdiction according to regulations to avoid misclassification and regulatory mismatch.

Regulations Parameter Calculation: Accurately determine design pressure and calculation pressure based on operating conditions, superimposing hydrostatic pressure and temperature effects, and reserving reasonable safety margins for strength calculations.

II. Core Design Phase

Material Selection and Matching: Select materials based on the characteristics of the medium, temperature, and pressure; verify material mechanical properties and weldability; and eliminate non-standard or inferior materials.

Optimized Structural Design: Avoid sharp corners and right angles; avoid high-stress areas for openings and reinforce them; verify flange and pipe orientation to ensure compliance with stress and process requirements.

III. Verification and Review Phase

Multi-dimensional Calculation Verification: Verify the stability of external pressure vessels; verify fatigue strength under alternating loads; verify the consistency between drawing parameters and calculation sheets.

Multi-level Signature Review: Implement a four-level review system of design, verification, review, and approval to proactively identify and address errors in labeling, selection, and parameters.

IV. Special Controls for Non-Standard Designs

Non-standard pressure vessels require specific strength checks for openings and irregular structures, and third-party verification should be added to avoid overlooking risk points in personalized designs.
